WHAT IS A
This idea was inspired by the countless hours we spent in the hospital with our own children as they underwent treatment for cancer. Children hospitalized with cancer are among the sickest of the sick. While receiving chemotherapy, they are often too weak or nauseous to leave their beds. If they’ve been hospitalized with a fever or infection, they must be isolated and are not allowed to leave their rooms. When undergoing more serious cancer therapies such as transplantation, children are often hospitalized for months at a time and in isolation. Regardless, they are always hooked up to IV poles and monitors which limit their mobility and activities. Watching countless hours of television is often their only stimulus. The boredom the children suffer from these frequent and prolonged hospital stays can be more devastating to them than the treatment for their disease. There is no shortage of toys to hand out to these kids, yet simply handing them a toy, no matter how extravagant, often does not help them. Many children become so depressed that they lack the motivation to even play.
Enter . A portable teddy bear stuffing machine and giant rocket shaped supply cart which can be wheeled right up to a child’s bedside. The child can stuff and dress their very own teddy bear. Better yet, every bear comes with a little “wishing star” for the child to make their secret wish and tuck it inside their teddy before he’s closed up. Our stuffing station doesn’t just give a child a toy – it gives them something to do. It provides them with an exciting, hands-on experience so far removed from their hospital activities that it’s bound to lift their spirits. And it leaves with them a loving, comforting teddy which they created themselves… plus clothes to dress it in and play with later!
